XChange Meeting in Cluj-Napoca
10. September 2017
This time our Xchange took us to Cluj-Napoca in the heart of Transilvania. The first day was dedicated for an exchange between Alumni. We met up and took off with a coffee and a round of introductions. It was fascinating to see the different career paths you can take after your time at EUROAVIA. After the introductions and initial chats we discussed about the Alumni Association, its development and next steps. I got a lot of new impressions and ideas on how to continue and felt a bit like in the old days working in my local group on the plans and strategies for the upcoming semester. Next stop on the Agenda was the University of Cluj Napoca where we were shown some of the laboratories by Vlad, on of our local Alumni.
Walking and talking calls for a reward which is why we went for a hearty meal and the first beer for lunch. With bodily cravings out of the way we went back to work. This time with a focus on mentoring. We are for quite a while working on the mentoring system now and it was great to get more feedback from other alumni on the topic. The discussion was followed up by a tour through the city center before heading back to the dormintories where we met up with the current generation of EUROAVIA. They spend the day on their EX-MEAC electing additional board members. After a shared dinner we got to some teambuilding, drinks and chats before retiering for the night.
The second day we spend together with the students. The goal of the Xchanges is to encourage interactions between students and Alumni and provide them with insights into future career paths and help them in their decision making. We got every going by a presentation on the motivation and goals of the Alumni Association and I was very happy to get a lot of positive feedback. We followed up with one of my favorite teambuilding activities, the marshmallow challenge. Look it up if you are interested, it is great fun. Here are some pictures of the teams at work. With everybody beeing energized and fully woken up we went to the main part of the Xchange. The presentations by the Alumni. There were four very different presentations/talks which were highly appreciated by the students. We then spread around the room to allow the participants to ask more individual questions.
After lunch, it was training time. We invited a trainer from another Student Organziation for a training on public speaking and one on growth mentality. It was great to have both student and alumni input on the workshops.
After two intensive and inspiring days it was time to leave the current generation of EUROAVIA to start their congress.
